Main
office. (Just joking!) This roof was supplied and installed
by Lake Stevens Shake Mill. It is almost 40 years old and
still no leaks!

The
Shake Mill. This is one of the only mills left that can still
obtain wood from Washington's local mountain regions. Please
note: this is all naturally fallen logs; Lake Stevens does
not harvest living trees.

How the wood arrives at the mill.
The
first step in making shakes is placing the cedar in the hydraulic
splitter

| Here
is the owner, Mark, next to his prized cedar, before
splitting begins. |
|
The
actual splitting caught in motion. |
Post-splitting, the wood is stacked.

The stacked wood is then sawn in half, lengthwise.

Once the wood is cut, it is placed on the conveyor belt, which
gives the cedar its finished look.

The cedar is now ready to be graded (divided into various
qualities) and stacked accordingly.

The cedar is now ready to be shipped.

This truck is warming up, ready to deliver first-rate cedar
to the customer's home.
